Alanis goes Acoustic for 10th anniversary of Jagged Little Pill !

10 Years to the day of the release of the groundbreaking album Jagged Little Pill, Alanis Morissette offers it up once again, this time stripping down the sound and giving us an acoustic representation of her music and distinctive lyrics . Jagged Little Pill is still the best selling album by a female performer in music history, and Alanis Morissette's new acoustic arrangement of JLP is as fresh as the original. That may sound a little out there, but the fact remains that the '90s version showed us a alt-rock angst driven Alanis CD that was filled with anger, even contempt. Jagged Little Pill Acoustic on the other hand shows another side of Alanis, without changing her lyrics (except a couple that show her sense of humor) Morissette sounds more vulnerable, at times victimized, than angry.

Alanis presents Jagged Little Pill (Acoustic) in the same order as the original and even includes an acoustic version of the hidden track "Your House". We have all heard and seen artists offering up acoustic tracks before, just think of the MTV Unplugged series of albums. Jagged Little Pill is a bit different in a couple ways, it is not a collection like an acoustic "Best Of" CD, it features the exact order as the original CD, and it was recorded in a couple California studios, not live like most of the others that have been offered. Although very good in their own right (especially Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie), Alanis Morissette never seemed to give us the same passion she dealt up on Jagged Little Pill. 

I'm sure most of us have heard about retail stores that got more than a bit put-off (Especially HMV) by Alanis deciding to offer up Jagged Little Pill for it's initial 6 weeks exclusively at Starbucks. The fact of the matter is, this CD is good regardless, and the chains that were offended, we'll wait and see if they remain to feel slighted once the CD hits the shelves of other stores, and not sell the CD. If they don't, it is themselves that they will be hurting as there is more than one store, online and on terra-firma that will take up the slack and sell the CD.

To hear Alanis Morissette on JLP Acoustic is like breathing in the past while knowing we are in the now. Her vocals are stronger, but with the new arrangements, she seems to be putting more of her soul on the line, and with the mega-hits like "Ironic", "Hand In My Pocket", and "You Learn", Alanis Morissette has given her fans a reason to rejoice in her latest offering. A great CD, lots of 90's pop-culture, but freshened up just enough to sound almost new again.
