Brad Cotter - 8 song demo Review

Growing up, listening to southern gospel music can't be too bad, look at where it has brought Brad Cotter. On the stage each week on reality television series for the USA Network, Nashville Star. Growing up in Auburn, Alabama, Brad Cotter learned music from some greats, though the house may have been filled with gospel music, when you are hearing the songs done by Elvis Presley, and a bit of Otis Redding thrown in this household must have been quite a setting to get ready for your music career. I am sure a career may not have been in the mind of a young Brad Cotter, the love of hearing and performing great music sure reached him at an early age though. Brad Cotter as a child between 11 and 17 yrs. old even recorded 5 gospel CDs, that was the beginning.........

Each week, fans of country music, fans of Brad Cotter, and other hopefuls tune in on Saturday nights to hear these talented artists perform in hopes to becoming the next "Big Thing" that Nashville has to offer. The prize is a recording contract with Sony Music, Nashville.  Brad was almost not a part of the show after the judges not picking him in week one from the 20 hopefuls, Brad Cotter had to wait until the vote of the fans brought him back to the competition the following week. Fans of the show and the judges are glad they did just that as Brad Cotter has continued to impress the viewers, the judges, and this musicologist. 

This CD is actually a demo recording of 8 songs to "shop around", being on Nashville Star, his fans are glad he offered it for sale, they needed more than just a once a week fix. They get it here, the music is strong, and the vocals of Brad Cotter are intense while remaining personable and honest. It was while watching the original's show this year that I drew closer to the sound and started really believing in Brad as he sang his original while sitting behind a keyboard. That song was "I Miss Me" and it is here on this CD. That song sent chills through me while he sang the song that night, I was a believer after that performance, a true believer in the music and talent of Brad Cotter.

Being a demo recording there is a tendency to think it is not as high a quality as it could be. You have to dismiss that thought immediately. No, so this isn't a mega million dollar recording, but it does show the raw talent and passion of Brad Cotter and helps me to realize we will be hearing much more from this young star on the rise in the future, win or lose the Nashville Star competition. Included here is the sure-fire hit "I Miss Me", a song that has it all, true feeling and emotion of a lost love, maybe we've all been here where we miss ourselves more than anything. Other songs of note are the up-tempo "You Gotta Be Country", "I Meant To" and the song that reminds us it is never too late "I've Got Time". I mentioned this is not perfect, but for a brief glimpse into the sound of one of the next country music stars, Brad Cotter is the real deal.
