If you truly try to write anything about music history, or attempt to describe true Americana Music, there is one name that can not be omitted. Cowboy Jack Clement enlisted in the service as a teenager, did 4 years, came back home, and started working at the legendary Sun Records Sun Records. It was at this point when Cowboy Jack Clement began to write his way into American music history. Guess Things Happen That Way is a collection of some of the vast musical, songwriting genius Cowboy Jack Clement has given the world.

A line in one of Cowboy Jack's most memorable songs recorded, by none other than Johnny Cash, Ballad Of A Teenage Queen "now this story has some more....." But you can't get it at the candy store, but your local record store will be able to help you with the rest of the story. Sam Phillips (Sun Records) fired Cowboy Jack Clement, that didn't slow him down in the least. He went to Nashville and started working with Chet Atkins, went to Texas and convinced George Jones to cut "She Thinks I Still Care", discovered an unknown, at the time, Charley Pride. Cowboy Jack Clement is not known for just his songwriting however, he is still acclaimed as one of the true music pioneers in the areas of songwriting, and producing. As a producer, Cowboy Jack Clement really started to make his name.

That was the past, but since we want to know about the present, Guess Things Happen That Way is a new release of some of the best country and roots songs ever written, and now performed by the man who penned them. Cowboy Jack Clements face is noticeably weathered as the album cover shows, as is his voice, but that doesn't make this less of a record, it actually adds to it's character. From beginning to end, Guess Things Happen That Way is one of the true treasures offered to the music loving public this year.

The songs remain true to the classic style in which they were written, they were not "beefed" up to broaden their appeal. What did happen is some of America's honest musical history has come into the light for all to hear. Cowboy Jack Clement's lyrics are true slices of Americana, the few newer songs on the CD show that time hasn't tampered with the ability of Cowboy Jack Clement to grab your attention. From lighthearted romps like "Drinking Carrot Juice" or "It'll Be Me" to the more heartfelt "Dreaming My Dreams With You" this is a must listen. So, if you are a fan of true Americana Country Music, a music historian, or simply curious, this CD has much to offer each listener.
