Darling Waste - The Truth About Lies

Cleveland, Ohio, the modern rock act Darling Waste can hold his own against a lot of the other bands today. Ranging from the Goo Goo Dolls, and other times Canadian rock powerhouse Our Lady Peace. This CD is good, a bit depressing, but good just the same. If you are in a negative state of mind, The Truth About Lies should not be your first pick to raise your spirits, or get you out of your slump.

There are a lot of rock acts that have depressing overtones, most of which don't know how to do anything else. Darling Waste don't stick to that philosophy at all times, there are a couple tunes that could be easily added to radio. "Giving In Again" and "Nothing Special" prove to be the bright spots on the debut release. At times the tracks begin to drone in some moments as one song leads to another with practically the same sound.

The songs are good enough to stand on their own, and the talent of  Lance Williams who is Darling waste writes a heck of a song. The complexity and unique chord progression are enough to hold your interest. The vocals when strong do sound eerily close to Raine Maida of OLP, when he's not so good, I tend to focus on the music and lyrics as musically Darling Waste rocks, at other times that rock seems to be trying to float in on the waters surface, and we know how that ends up.

Intriguing is a good way to describe the vocals since they are not always strong, they do seem to fit here. A good taste of the CD proves to be infectious, almost intoxicating. I expect to hear more from Lance Williams in the future. With room for improvement there is for sure time to grow musically and vocally. I don't like to say to an artist to make their music more commercial, after saying that, there could have been a few more up-tempo or catchy tunes without losing integrity. I like it, just not as strong as you can tell could have been.
