David Aaron - From Brooklyn

At that age where most twenty-somethings are still searching for direction and purpose, David Aaron has already found his calling. This young man from Brooklyn doesn't have the makings of a great musical talent; he is a great musical talent. In his newest release, appropriately titled From Brooklyn, David Aaron sings and plays his songs with the experience of someone who's been in the business for twenty years. 

Included on this album are the popular songs from Aaron's Poor Wally Pipp, "The Mourning", "Wild Garden" and "Waiting". Additional tracks such as "Mr Sam" and "Leave Today" continue to demonstrate David Aaron's ability to marry grudge and power rock. "S.W. O.J." goes back to the nitty gritty beer-on-the-floor basement club music with its despondent harmonica played by Aaron and some vocals by Rose Kaufman and backed by Steve D., while "Advancement" showcases a slower melancholy side to the David Aaron sound. The short guitar instrumental "Baby Bias" proves the strength of Aaron's finger-styling while the bonus track exercises Aaron's chops and saxophone playing. "The Jesus Orphan's", which will not be heard on the radio unless the FCC becomes headed by Colin Farrell, is reminiscent of early Dave Matthew's Band. 

I'm sure David Aaron already has quite a following in New York and I suspect that he would do well on the college circuit. He writes music with thoughtful lyrics and edge. You can either listen to the lyrics and meditate about the world and perhaps learn something about yourself, or you can lose yourself in the strumming of Aaron's guitar and let his voice fade into the background. David Aaron has got the perfect mix of broodiness, hope, despair, idealism and insight to the painful reality of the world that fits well with the attitude of today's youth. The girls will fall over him because he's the cute guitar/singer who is profound, and the guys will respect him because he knows how to make the guitar sing (and his own voice is pretty good too). Brooklyn offers David Aaron in this 37min 48sec CD music album. Be sure to pick it up. I've got my copy and am waiting for my chance to hear him live.
