Punk rock has stood the test of time, much to the dismay of nay-sayers that have tried to say for years that this music wouldn't last. Not only has it lasted, it is much more respected today than it was  when it began in the 1970s. The bands still play music for the social outcast and it sill remains a wonderful way to vent for the artists. Anarchy and disrespect for the establishment still reign through the songs as they did in the beginning, and will remain to do so until the end. Punk Rock is a statement made by youth that don't fit the norm of society, however the music has become increasingly popular, so does that mean that punk rock music is now the "NORM" of the music world? Hardly, but it is an art form all it's own. So, enjoy the review of the G-SPOT - Come Here, Go Away, then head back to the main Punk Rock Reviews page and get a taste of some more new stuff.

Not the mythical female pleasure zone, G-Spot Rocks, and it's REAL!

G-SPOT - Come Here, Go Away

G-Spot - Come Here, Go Away CD Cover

When I was a kid, I heard the mythical story of the person who named their dog Go Away, so what would happen to that dog, the confused K-9 soul when you you wanted to get it to come..... You would yell "Come Here, Go Away"..... that would be one confused puppy kids!! The story immediately entered my head when Gail Silverman and G-Spot's newest CD entitled, yeah, Come Here, Go Away. So, what's the story on G-Spot, first thing I just really had to get off my chest, I really don't think after listening to G-Spot's EP and now full length CD, that Gail Silverman is a chick I want to get on the bad side of..... If she's not really a mad and angry gal, she sure puts on a good show....... phew, got that out of the way, now the music!!

Fierce, driven punk rock. That's the idea, not that modern-rock cross-over crap that is being force fed to the masses, this is pure adrenaline filled, dirty, gritty, and Sexy punk that further proves my thoughts on the 5 track EP I had the pleasure to review. G-Spot may be fronted by Gail Silverman (with original Bass player Donald Dixon), but Come Here, Go Away has balls! G-Spot has as much fire as the Ramones delivered in the 1970s with the added intensity and playfulness of Joan Jett, the Runaways days. Come Here, Go Away gets in your face, and doesn't let up, a fun, angry, and at times turbulent CD that WILL grab ya!

G-Spot - Gail Silverman - FingerThe tracks here are not polished gems, they are edgy and rough, but that's the way it's supposed to be, right ? Gail Silverman and G-Spot deliver true to the soul Punk Rock that won't soon be forgotten. From the EP, "Revolutionary", the most memorable song makes another appearance, and it is truly at home with the new tracks too. Other notable tracks from Come Here, Go Away include "The Harley Song", "Over You", "Happy Denial" and "Hey Creator". There are no actual "BEST" tracks here, simply put, this is the whole package. If you don't get aroused, in one way or another, while listening to the explosive new CD, then I suggest you maybe try and find a re-issue of Zamfir or Yanni, and leave the in-your-face stuff alone, this is what made Punk Rock great in the first place, and with Come Here, Go Away, G-Spot continue a tested tradition with a new found passion.

The last cut on the disc is actually a Kundalini Yoga Chant ("Triple Mantra Meditation") for protection and to remove obstacles from your life. The CD is enhanced with instructions on using the Triple Mantra, if you're into that, and gig and behind the scene photos! Gail Silverman and G-Spot didn't disappoint me, after the EP I was hoping the full length would continue to show forward momentum, it does. Come Here, Go Away is one of the better CDs of the Genre, and it was thankfully NOT recorded with radio play as it's only focus, this is the real deal, do you think you're ready for it ?

G-Spot

G-Spot - 5 Song EP

The leader of G-Spot is femme fatale Gail Silverman, a singer-songwriter of the alternative variety. The songwriting is that of angst and total disregard for the norm. A mixture of young love, anarchy and political incorrectness. In all that is a good thing with G-Spot as the style of music matches the assault on your hearing the band wants to portray. This ain't the kind of pop music or rock you might be expecting from a "she" fronted band.

I think Gail pounds home the attitude of G-Spot best right from the first of this EP. She wails on "Revolutionary" .... "Well I'm not Christina and I'm not Brittney, I'm not Brandi, nor am I Mandy, Oooh it's cool to be the one who's not JUST eye candy....", That kind of brings the emotion to the forefront here. As a whole this is a rock CD that's not punk, metal, pop, or rock, but more of a mixture of all of the above. With a witty sense of humor thrown in the lyrical mix, more noticeable on tunes like "Nut In Your World".

This is one CD that you will have to check out when the next full length
release is released at the end of 2003. I still would recommend getting caught up on G-Spot by checking out there website, or their last CD release "Experience the Pleasure". From "Revolutionary" to "Sweet Lies", Silverman and company reel you in and keep your palate wanting to taste more of this infectious groove they have going on. A brazen New York band that deserves attention, and commands it at times. Sleek, slick production with rebellious attitude. A great glimpse into a band on the rise.
