Great Big Sea - Something Beautiful

Since they released their independent self titled CD in 1993, GBS have added many legions to their fan base. The rest of Canada (The mainland b'ye) soon found out what the Newfoundlanders already knew, Great Big Sea put on one heck of an energetic show. Their blend of Celtic rock, and true Newfoundland folk have an enticing appeal to the masses and they cast their musical spell on Canada without missing a beat.

On this, their eighth CD (Including the US Import) GBS show no signs of slowing down. Well known for their concerts, modern adaptations of traditional Newfoundland music, and their truly heartfelt originals. Great Big Sea's newest CD (slated for a February 24th release) has more of what the fans have come to expect, and appreciate. Something Beautiful showcases more originals, as well as the trademark, beer drinking, screech shooting, traditionals. The boys have an incredible way of mixing a sense of humor into all of their albums, and this is no exception.

When you have something that works so well for you, why change your formula? Great Big Sea seem to live by that mantra. Their are some sure fire hits on the disk "Shines Right Through Me", "Something Beautiful" and "Let It Go" should easily find themselves on playlists from coast to coast. The worldwide appeal is there, however the shot at pure stardom has eluded them somehow. Never have the boys sounded any better than they do here. Sure to be a party and pub favorite, Something Beautiful brings with it both expected material, instrumental tunes and some catchy originals, I am still partial to 1995's UP album, this is not at that level, but still offers the complete package!
