It’s been far from a smooth ride to the top for Jameel McCline. However, the steely self resolve he’s built up over the years has hardened him to the point where he’s become one of the most feared heavyweights in recent memory.

Size can often hinder a boxer but despite standing nearly two metres tall, McCline is no gentle giant.

Victories over Michael Grant, Lance Whitaker, and Shannon Briggs made him the hottest property in the heavyweight division in 2001. Many were describing him as the next great heavyweight.

But an absent mind has no place in a boxing ring, and the man nicknamed, ‘Big Time’ now admits his devastating loss to current WBC Heavyweight champ, Wladimir Klitschko in late 2002, was due to over confidence, not his opponent’s skill.

It’s been a long road back but McCline says his hunger for success has never faultered. Disappointment has given him strength, and after coming so close to championship glory, he knows exactly what it takes to reach the top.
