Jet - Rare Tracks

Sometimes when a band needs to release some new material to remain in the music buying public's recent memory they release rare or unreleased tracks. Usually when that happens the band has been around for a long time and have a plethora of cuts to choose from. That is USUALLY! On the heels of the smash debut CD Get Born, Jet have released their rare tracks, a Japanese import, you would have to think they wouldn't have a never-ending well of music choices to deliver, and with 8 Tracks on the CD that is probably true.

Jet scored big with 2 of the tracks here, Cold Hard Bitch and Are You Gonna Be My Girl, this time they are live versions of the two. Theses 2 songs get to be heard in their unpolished, raw LIVE form. The boys from Down Under offer up a mixed bag of tricks here. They throw down some tracks that are rare, but do they deserve to be heard? Well, in simple point form, yes they do, as a matter of fact the song SGT. Major could be one one of the best tracks Jet produced and we may not have heard it otherwise.

Jet show they know how to have a good time here as well with their rendition of Clarence Carter's Back Door Santa, they also include a live version of That's Alright Mama (Yep, the Elvis tune) that shows they can be a full contact Jam Band when needed piping in at just over 8 (eight) minutes. Jet are set to become one of the better straight forward rock acts today as long as they don't try to mess with their already winning formula much. Jet's lyrics may not be social awakenings, but they do fit the sound the band sets forth.

On Rare Tracks, Jet are in the rough, but entertainment value alone is reason enough to pick this up. Also noteworthy is You Were Right a demo which sounds almost hauntingly like the Kinks. The biggest reason to add Jet - Rare Tracks to your personal library is as I mentioned earlier SGT. Major which is absolutely staggering. So, bottom line, yeah this is worth picking up. Rare Tracks is an important addition for hardcore Jet fans, but finds a good home in all rock fans collections. The enhanced version of the CD let's you see three Jet demo videos of Are You Gonna Be My Girl, Roll Over DJ and Take it or Leave it.
