Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers - True Companion

Fans of modern blues and roots rock will already know the name of this legendary Pittsburgh performer. Joe Grushecky pulls out all the stops on his latest "True Companion". It has been 23 years since we last heard from this icon with the release of "When Have A Good Time (But Get Out Alive)" which was touted as one of the best rock CDs by critics and fans alike, and though it has been since 1981 you would never believe Grushecky and the Houserockers haven't been living in the studio as they have never sounded better or more conmfortable in what they are doing.

If you think of Bob Dylan going electric, Bruce Springsteen's early E Street Band days, and even the Stones you can get a mental picture of what this CD is all about. Bringing the roots of blues oriented rock back to the forefront is no easy task, but Grushecky and company pull it out of the hat with incredible ease. This is a wonderful flashback that embraces the senses and makes it easy to accept this CD as one of the best ever recorded by Grushecky. 

Like a fine wine, Joe Grushecky has seemingly grown and improved, if you'd have asked me before listening, I would have told you that was not possible. I stand in awe of the talent, soul and heart this disk offers up. A powerful energy driven collection of songs that truly deserves, and commands to be heard. If you think you like Blues based rock, you simply have to add this CD to your collection, write it down now so you don't forget. True Companion is a true musical expression that throws itself at you full force without letting go.

Grinding guitar, thundering bass, explosive drums and gritty vocals are served up on a finely tuned platter. The delivery is flawless, the sound is forceful, the writing is strong, a gem that needs be discovered, then appreciated. I truly feel you will be hearing of this CD a lot more as time goes on and more fans get hooked. Am I overplaying or exaggerating the strength of this CD, not in the least, you must own this CD to get hooked yourself, and if you are a fan of the sound, you WILL get hooked!
