Kate Campbell - Twang On A Wire

The daughter of a Baptist preacher, from Sledge, Mississippi and a performer who has traveled the world delivering her pure, almost simplistic vocal style, Kate Campbell has returned to the roots of female country on her latest album. Twang On A Wire both pays homage to some of the greats as well as adding pure octane to the mix and making the songs sound new again. Hands down the best independent country album of the year.

Bringing her talent to the songs of some of country's most well known and loved stars, this is in essence a tribute to the originals, and a bit of a makeover at the same time. Although written by a master in his trade, David Allan Coe, many would remember the Tanya Tucker version of "Would You Lay With Me In A Field Of Stone". Along with Jeff Finlin, Kate Campbell shows the honesty of the writing while softening the blow.

Other songs include a version o Lynn Anderson's trademark "Rose Garden", one of the best Dolly Parton songs ever "Down From Dover". A new take on the Donna Fargo hit "Funny Face", the Tammy Wynette trademark "'Til I Can Make It On My Own", and the most powerful and rockin' version of Jeannie C. Riley's "Harper Valley PTA" ever made. Those are but a few of the classics remade by Campbell here, the list is extensive, and astonishing.

Twelve remade classics that show purely why Twang On A Wire has become a staple on Americana radio and charts. That's the start of the album which if it ended after the twelve songs would still be a fine addition to any country or roots music library. The finishing touch here is a classic in it's own right, an original that stands as well as the classics on it's own. The acoustic gem "Twang On A Wire"  (possibly the best track here) a sort of tribute to those who came before her, written by Kate Campbell and Mark Narmore puts a beautiful finish on an already great project. The CD also includes a multi media "Making of" the CD that is very interesting as well.
