Laurie McClain - The Trumpet Vine

Kate Wolf was one of the great contemporary songwriters that was taken from earth in 1986. Kate popularized the folk scene in Northern California in the 1970s. Although her passing was indeed inopportune, she did leave behind a legacy in her music for all to hear, music that is once again resurrected. Laurie McClain, born in southern California, has taken 14 tracks from the Kate Wolf songbook that for sure pays homage to the Kate Wolf.

The songs here are by no means as good as the original Kate Wolf works, while Laurie McClain does add her own touch, she also keeps the spirit of the legend alive with her gracious delivery and adaptation of the songs. A CD that fans of Kate Wolf must own, The Trumpet Vine displays the magic in the Kate Wolf compositions, and Laurie McClain delivers a breathtaking accolade to the works. This CD introduces the music of Kate Wolf to not only fans of Kate Wolf, but a new generation may well be drawn into the esteemed songwriters works.

A superb performance from McClain makes for one of the best single artist tributes I have come across. Sleek production made for an extremely soothing CD that portrays Wolf's music with elegance and a noticeable love for the material. Laurie McClain's vocals consist of equal parts Emmylou Harris and Linda Rondstadt. With memorable Kate Wolf tracks like "Across The Great Divide", "The Trumpet Vine", and "Like a River" showcase some of the very best Kate Wolf material.

Laurie McClain's last album The Child Behind My Eyes spotlights on the talent of Laurie McClain as both a great songwriter and performer. Her original work is in it's own right proves that Laurie can be listed up near the top of the list of Americana songwriters.
