Over the years, pop music has gone through many changes. The term Pop can be misleading in these times as Popular music is actually a culmination of genres. Pop music reviews will focus on a number of artists and bands, not limited to one specific sound. If you are an artist or a band member, record label, or publicist and you want your music included in Pop music reviews,  click the "Review Guidelines" link on the left.

Pop music reviews will be added regularly. Both indie artists/bands and the well known and signed acts. So, browse around and take a look, you are bound to find something you enjoy. Lost Weekend - The Art Of Wasting Time

OK, maybe you're mind doesn't work the way mine does..... let's hope anyway. But I have wondered at times what would have happened if the 60s folk music scene were actually to begin today, with the likes of Simon and Garfunkel, the Mamas and Papas etc., what the movement would have sounded like given the state of the music scene. Well, I think I may have come up with an answer without really searching hard for it. Enter the latest release from Lost Weekend, The Art Of Wasting Time

Tucker, Georgia musician, singer and songwriter Scott Roberts has released what I would call, ummmm, an interesting CD to say the least. Teamed with band mate, the only other member of Lost Weekend and drummer Mike Joswick, The Art of Wasting Time is a breezy recording that, knowingly or not, transfuses the sound of an era gone by with today's influences and makes for a decent listening experience. A CD that churns Alt. country ("Almost Alison"), folk, and pop into a brisk new combination.

There are times the self-produced CD sounds a bit empty as far as the production  goes, but the main thing that comes through loud and clear is the light-hearted flow the music has. There is a certain charisma to the work that grabs you and lures the listener into a modern day tribute to a truly Americana, roots pop feel. Lost Weekend seems to have their path mapped out, and you have to tip your hat to them as they steer completely clear of the mainstream. That proves at least one thing to me, they are not just chasing the elusive music biz dollar, they are creating a music that they can feel happy with without disregard to their morals.

While listening to the The Art Of Wasting Time you become aware that there is music for all tastes, even in today's cookie-cutter mass produced "radio friendly" sound. One of the sheer joys for a reviewer is to hear something completely original, in all aspects and that is what Lost Weekend offers for your perusal. Just one more example of why Indie (independent) music deserves to be heard. With an all original, excluding the Lennon/McCartney penned "I'll Be Back" , CD, there are some very memorable tracks like "Pretending", "Places Where I Don't Belong", and the title track. A refreshing change of pace from the everyday.
