All American Girl -

Margaret Cho was hailed as one of the greater young comediennes to come out of the early '90s. She was adored on the late night circuit, and loved by fans across the USA. Her calling card at this time was to let audiences know what it was like to have a traditional Korean family, but yet be born and raised in the USA. This is where the sit-com came into play. All-American Girl was supposed to be an extension of the stand-up comedy Margaret Cho was delivering at the time, it's just too bad it didn't come across on the small screen quite the same as it did with the live show.

All-American Girl may have been canned in it's first year, but that isn't because it was the worst show on the tube, many lasted longer that this that didn't have near much potential. Easy to watch, mostly about dating however as the mom always wants Margaret to date a Korean boy, and Margaret is busy bringing your typical "ones your mother warned you about" American boys home. Not exactly the most thought provoking show on television, or now on DVD, but there are some great chuckles, and the Grandmother here is absolutely hilarious. Better than some, not as good as others, but still a worthwhile pick if you like the comedy of Margaret Cho. Probably more for the teenage girl, they could probably relate to the story lines portrayed more than anyone.
