Coldread - EP

Got a bit turned off Coldread before I really had a chance to listen, so I came back to listen again, this time skipping the cheesy 80s adventure movie intro. Upon returning for a second listen I discovered the band had more to offer than they showed in the opening. Strong guitars and pulsating drums together with the booming bass are the highlights. The vocals are not as strong, however I feel that is more of a lack of budget thing, as the vocals seem distant.

From Boston, MA, USA, Coldread have a good sound considering the lack of tight production. Metal fans are getting harder to please in this era, so you really have to come up with something special to dram them and hold them. On the 7 track self titled track Coldread fall a bit short of the mark. That's not to say they aren't talented or good, I am saying however That instead of trying to fit in, try and find something more different than is offered. There is originality here, overshadowed by some cliché sounding metal. With the obvious passion and talent, I feel that that they could move in a different direction than the already overcrowded pack. Metal fans will like it, and I'm certain they will gather a good fan base. This will suffice until the next project, which after hearing this I am expecting a higher quality, and more inventive songs.
