Miranda Lambert - Kerosene

The first season of Nashville Star gave us Buddy Jewell who has just released his second major label release “Times Like These” for Sony Music Nashville. John Arthur Martinez, the runner-up signed on with Dualtone records, and Sony Music Nashville after signing Miranda Lambert (the third place finisher of season 1) kept Nashville Star and RanFans wondering where the CD was. The debut CD “Kerosene” for Miranda Lambert was scheduled for release, then pushed back, then re-scheduled and pushed back again, but finally during Nashville Star’s third season Miranda Lambert’s CD arrived on store shelves, the question then was, Was it worth the wait?

Anyone who heard this young Texan on the series knew the talent was there. Miranda Lambert with the release of  Kerosene has shown what she is made of. The sweet vocals of Miranda are at times almost too innocent sounding for some of the subject matter in the tracks, but you get over that thought quickly. The songwriting is top-notch, Miranda Lambert wrote or co-wrote eleven of the twelve tracks here, the only track that she didn’t write is “I Can’t Be Bothered” which was written by another of the season one Nashville Star alumni Travis Howard. Howard also co-wrote “Mama, I’m Alright” (Which could be a huge hit) and the current hit single from Kerosene “Bring Me Down”.

The CD kicks in high gear with the dixie-chickish sounding  title track “Kerosene” and continues to roll forward with ease. “What About Georgia” has the most original sound on the CD, while “Greyhound Bound For Nowhere” (which Miranda wrote with her dad) is hands down the most powerful track on “Kerosene”. “New Strings” is one of those “I needs to find myself out there somewhere” songs that fits Miranda Lambert wonderfully. That brings us to the one track Miranda didn’t write, “I Can’t Be Bothered” is a true slice of Americana. Alt country fans as well as traditionalists would eat this one up, probably the one hidden gem, that may remain an album cut, on Kerosene.

Miranda Lambert has been in the top 40 twice, her new single is on the climb (although it did make it in to drop out and is now back), and her last attempt “Me And Charlie Talking”, a good track, released to radio before the CD release cracked ion to the top 40 but it didn't stay long. Miranda Lambert ‘s “I Wanna Die” is a true modern Texas country track, with the harder edge. “Love Is Looking For You”, “Mama, I’m Alright”, “There’s A Wall” and “Love Your Memory” round out this exceptional CD from Miranda Lambert, so to answer that question from the beginning, Kerosene was definitely worth the wait, a true solid country music CD from a gal that has this music business by the tail, if she wants it!
