You know, since DVD started becoming mainstream you could almost see this coming.... Well, I mean they started with VHS, but the tapes were really big and bulky, and there really weren't that many shows that really made the transition well. With DVD, TV shows make the transition much easier, the discs are thinner, the packaging is smaller and much easier to store. You can store a whole TV Season on DVD easily and with as much room as it may take to store maybe 3 VHS tapes at most, alot of the Seasons can fit in a space the width it would take to fit ONE VHS tape, or less.

Monk - Season 2 on DVD - Review

Emmy and Golden Globe award winner MONK Season 2 arrived on DVD. The show is a quirky journey into the life of a lonely, obsessive-compulsive detective Adrian Monk. Although Monk is a brilliant detective, who at times solves the case at the last minute, his antics are humorous, and sometimes painful. Monk is afraid of flying, will only drink one brand of bottled water, and would die of thirst before drinking any other, and he has to make sure everything is done perfectly, well, at least when it comes to straightening pictures, having to even up 2 coffee pots, or walking, let's not step on any cracks now!

Some who have the same disorder will either find Monk annoying and cruel, or will be able to relate to the trials of the man. Either way, many have come to adore the "defective detective" who, even with his problems, seems to be smarter than the entire San Francisco police force. Tony Shalhoub plays the character superbly, and shows the humor well, but he also shows us a determined detective that will do whatever it takes (unless it means getting dirty or shaking hands) to solve the case he is assigned.

Usually handed the tougher cases, as he has the ability to see things others don't with his elephant-like memory, Monk is not a cop, he is a special consultant. The series of antics Monk goes through are comical, at least to the viewer, but Mr. Monk's assistant Sharona (Bitty Schram) has to show some real patience with the man, and she tolerates much more than many others could bear. The chemistry between the two is based on respect, and of course a bit of contempt on the part of Sharona. No matter how you slice it, Monk has what it takes to solve the case, no matter how annoying you may find him.

Entertainment Weekly calls MONK on of the "Top 10 Best Things on TV", find out why on this 4 disc, complete 16 episode, season 2 of the USA network's show, released by Universal. The bonus features are however a bit lacking, with 4 features "The Minds Behind Monk", "Disher Character Profile", "Stottlemeyer Character Profile" and Precinct tours with Jason Gray-Stanford (Disher). All in all though, the set is for sure worth the admission price and would have ranked higher of there were more special features.
