Motörhead - Inferno

Time and again through the course of time, metal bands seem to shine bright for a while, then they get dim, and eventually fade away. I thought this was to be the case for the Metal Maniacs led by Lemmy Kilmister. The voice of Motörhead looks up while screaming his gritty vox up to the microphone while thunderously giving us wicked bass licks, well, that is the way I would like Motörhead's frontman remembered, but he seemed to be almost faux over the past few albums. It almost seemed as though right after the No Sleep at All and 1916 albums Motörhead simply lost interest, or didn't seem to mix the formula correctly in the studio, that is until the latest from Sanctuary Records, INFERNO!

Inferno is the right name for this CD as Motörhead play like men on fire with their patented in your face, balls to the wall performance we have come to hope for. Inferno seems at times almost inspired, this simply rises above most of the great metal acts of days past more recent offerings. Lemmy Kilmister, Mikkey Dee, and Phillip Campbell are back to step it up again and blaze the metal trail for those less worthy to follow the leaders.

At times you could almost swear the boys were actually faster than in the past, almost reaching speed-metal status. The screeching guitar work from Campbell is as good as it ever was, and pulsating heart stopping drumming from Dee is in rare form. As far as Inferno is concerned, Motörhead have returned with an extreme passion. Hopes ring in my head that they will continue to follow the trend, eight to ten mediocre albums between the real Motörhead is simply too damn long to wait, welcome back boys.

The complete awe-inspiring sound may be lost on some of today's modern metal fans, but the true headbangers will be ecstatic that Inferno returns Motörhead to the top of their game. "Terminal Show" with guest guitarist Steve Vai opens the gate, and Motörhead then plow their way in. "In The Name of Tragedy" is going down in my books as one of Motörhead's best! The complete offering flows extremely well, but there are a couple more standout tracks like "In The Year Of The Wolf" and the less frantic, but equally as good "Keys to the Kingdom" is another to mark in the books, get prepared to be blown away.
