What's on South 11th Street? It's where our Mute Angst Envy reunited. South 11th Street is only the band's third project together, the first was the Trust EP back in 1990 and the second was the full Archetype/Trust CD released in 1992. The band has been on hiatus since 1995. But don't worry, it was a working hiatus so the band is in great shape, at least musically speaking. Keith St Thomas and Paul Zimmerman have been working on the Luxo Crush project as well as playing with Lisa Dewey and the Lotus Life. Jack Holmes, for his part as the founder of MAE, is solid as an iron skull.

Load this reunion project into the CD player and your instantly transported into the netherworld. It's a world of awesome music and soul shaking rhythms. It's a world reminiscent of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, just like the art found inside the jacket. It'll get your blood pumping and your adrenaline rushing and you'll be glad the band is there with you. As for the cover art, it's one of those splatter art pieces that I can never figure out, but if you keep looking at the image while listening to the album you'll feel the rage and fury of the music. And yes, you can imagine those little dots and lines start to move. One moment it's a battlefield, the next it's crop circles.

It's the baseline that makes this album by Mute Angst Envy superb. The deep vocals and bass drive the songs to that edge between chaos and hysteria. That same edge we seek when we go on 200 foot roller coasters. Les Shanrock's drums on the tracks 'Siege', 'Death and Reason', and 'Valour and Honour' are a definite bonus. The heavy beats will get the blood to boil. But as dark as the music is with the hysteria as 'Death of Reason' and the hypnotic instrumentals of 'Siege' and 'Mute', South 11th Street isn't without some tenderness. 'Delusion' is an entrancing song that can almost be called a sweet lullaby. But you'll have to index it next to Rock-a-bye Baby and the cradle falling down, this is MAE after all.
