 Nashville Star 001330

It's week 6 of Nashville Star's third season, and I have to admit I am curious tonight. Last week was a forgettable show and the contestants really didn't show me much of an A-Game. I thought and will tell you this, last week Jayron lost a bit of it for me, Mr. Weaver just kind of coasted through. Of course Tamika Tyler was eliminated, and that had to make me wonder a bit, but it wasn't my choice alone. The only 2 contestants last week that brought even a bit of what I really needed, and the viewers deserved to hear, were Jason Meadows and Erika Jo. So, with all that being said, I am not hanging on the edge of my seat for the performances this week, I am more hoping that the contestants can overcome the talent drought that was suffered in week 5 of Nashville Star's third season.

The Lomg awairted CD from Miranda Lambert - Kerosene

Nashville Star 001330

The bright spot this week is that Season One winner Buddy Jewell will perform. And after introduced he does just that. here's the thing, I love Buddy's new single, but why did I only get to hear a bit of it when all the other guest stars and even Phil Vassar and Bret Michaels got to give us the complete songs? Oh well, I am just happy to see Buddy Jewell performing, and I tell you Buddy still looks and sounds great. Buddy proves why he was the first Nashville Star, I still can't believe that he had to wait for a call back instead of just moving on, but he showed us anyway!

LeAnn Rimes seems to be feeling better, and she is still not screaming, I guess someone must have got through to her. Although I still love Nancy and her voice, but I wasn't as turned off by LeAnn as I had been in past weeks.

Now it is time to wait and see who the first performer of Nashville Star episode six will be. I have to wonder with so many mediocre performances last week, who did America decide to keep around.... Oh, well before we get to that, LeAnn Rimes asks the judges what their thought of Tamika Tyler being sent, and here are their comments.

Anastasia - "I sensed a Diva lurking inside, and I guess others did too, and so America gave her a big old spankin'...."

Phil - "I thought she was great, and she picked great songs too, I liked that about her..."

Bret - "Sometimes you've got to take your anger and turn it into your music and just not take it out on your fans, cause we dug her..."

Alright.... Here is the moment of truth, who will be the first to perform on week 6, and LeAnn calls for ........... Jayron Weaver

Nashville Star 001330

~ Jayron Weaver - "Shoulda been A Cowboy"

"I Feel like the Underdog, I mean I have the least experience of anybody performance-wise."

Jayron singing Toby Keith? Oh well, you know if this wasn't a Toby Keith song, I would have liked it A LOT! Jayron comes back to form and to me he finally shows a real country side shining through. This was an odd choice, but Jayron did a good job, there will be criticism, but he actually sounded like he can do Country, and I stand by him, should be in the top 3!

What the Nashville Star Judges thought

Anastasia - "I Think their's not enough grit in your country, and I don't think you're carrying a six shooter...."

Bret - "I think you've got to get used to performing in front of about 5 or 10 thousand people...."

Phil - "I Think you're just awesome, I want to see you bring it......"

I can't help but wonder if the reason Anastasia changed her tune about Jayron is the complete lack of CD sales that Brad Cotter, who started in Christian music, had.... just food for thought.

Nashville Star 001330

Oh my God...... The worst of the auditions are getting brief clips shown, and the gal that tried to sing "Me and Bobby McGee" made Casey sound like an angel, and that ain't good!

After the commercial break, the one and only Buddy Jewell states "I would never have had a record deal if it weren't for Nashville Star...... Be Good to your Fans man, they'll be good to you......". Buddy Jewell won the first season, and still is one class act!

Nashville Star 001330

~ Jason Meadows, "Down On The Farm"

"My name Ain't George Straight, it's Jason Meadows"

Still the only "real" cowboy on the show. Jason Meadows shows, to this viewer, that he may very well be the next Nashville Star. Jason played and sang his heart out tonight, and I have to tell you, this is the best I have seen him perform to date. Jason has a flair that would be fun to watch in concert. I get to thinking his show would be more of a "SHOW" than a simple concert! I am looking forward to hearing much more of Jason after this week, his strongest performance, and a wonderful job!

What the Nashville Star Judges thought

Anastasia - "You are rock solid, and if I have to give you one piece of advice, back away from the ditties....."

Bret - "You do what you do, you're great at what you do, and I dig it...."

Phil - "You moved around a lot better, I think this kind of song is your meat and potatoes man...."

Nashville Star 001330

~ Erika Jo "You're No Good" ~

OK, Was I watching the same performance as the judges?? I do NOT think that Erika Jo brought it all to the table tonight. Erika Jo is still at the tops, but I think the judges are trying to sway America's votes. There is no way this was a stellar performance. Erika Jo started off weak, and I have to say the mid-point was weak and then she kicked into it in the end. But hey, I'm not a judge, but come on, this was not even close to Erika Jo's best performance, she fell short this week in my opinion. Bad song choice unless she was really going to wail, and this week she showed me a middle-of-the-road performance that I could hear in any Karaoke bar across the country. What happened to her passion and desire??

What the Nashville Star Judges thought

Anastasia - "If I had the call tonight, you would be my Nashville Star" (Ummmm, what??)

Bret - "You're No Good My Ass, you Rock!"

Phil - "You're the best performer on the stage"

Nashville Star 001330

~Justin David - "Callin' Baton Rouge"

"I Hope you guys had fun with me tonight, because I know I sure did"

Well, I have to wonder now what is happening. First off, if you are going to give me a Garth Brooks song you better give a barrel of energy, and Justin David offers up a tea-cup.... After listening to his independent CD @ CDBaby, I really was expecting greater things from Justin David. Now, he has shown me that he can play the heck out of almost any instrument, but the vocals just aren't there. If Justin is still around next week, that means he has a huge fan base, but this song..... Well, the viewers know "Callin' Baton Rouge" from Garth and if you can't give anywhere near the energy, maybe you should choose a different song to perform. The fiddle playing rocked, but I would probably have a kickin' time in a club watching Justin David, but I would not buy a CD or go to a major concert to listen or watch any of his performances so far on the show. Watching the faces of the audience members, I don't feel the energy was even there in the auditorium.

What the Nashville Star Judges thought

Anastasia - "Your weak moment is your voice........"

Bret - "Tonight I saw you light it up, and I dig it........"

Phil - "You're maybe not the greatest singer in the world, but what you're doing is hard....."

Nashville Star 001330

Alright here we go again, we have the final 2 waiting to see who will be the next to perform. After last week I really don't know if either Jody Evans or Jenny Farrell deserve to stay. Maybe Jody, if you look at all the past performances on season 3 of Nashville Star.

It's time for one of the contestants to pack their bags, and the one that will go home this week is...... Jenny Farrell

Nashville Star 001330

~ Jody Evans - "Just Call me Lonesome"

"I want them (his hometown) to say yeah, he did us a good job."

Well, I have gotten many emails stating I've been hard on Jody, let me set the record straight. I like what Jody does, I am a huge fan of the alternative country and Americana music scenes, and I simply feel Jody would be better suited in one of those arenas than a Nashville Star! The performance will probably keep him around for one more week, but after that it will be a tough call. Jody Evans came on stage again tonight and did what Jody Evans does best. He has a lot of energy built up in there, I can't help but wonder what we would see if the guitar wasn't constraining him a bit, great energy. I like Jody Evans, a lot, but I just can't see him as a Nashville Star!

What the Nashville Star Judges thought

Anastasia - "Pro Tools will not solve your problems."

Bret - "That is the Jody I Love right there....."

Phil - "It's awesome to see what you can do every week man, I love your thing......"

Nashville Star 001330

Now for my final thoughts..... Yeah, I think this weeks show was far ahead of last weeks show. That's a good thing, but with that being said and after watching the show this week, In my opinion, Justin David will be the next to go home. I think Justin has a huge fan base that has kept him around this far, but I really can't see him moving forward any farther. I have had to eat my words before and I may have to again, but only time will tell!
