Rikks Revues has changed a bit for this season, the third, of Nashville Star. I am going to add my take, and a quote from each of the judges, and if you want to make your voice heard, use Music Chat - The Rikks Revues forum, there will be prize packs given out throughout the season drawn from the comments posted on Music Chat! You can also use the chat room available at this NEW Message Board, or post your comments on many other subjects, well, anything really!

This weeks show was one that I was waiting for.... There really had to be some changes in some of the performances. I feel Jayron Weaver has a great vocal presence, but I need to see if he can do more than I have seen this far... Could Erika Jo continue to shine? Will Tamika impress me as much as she did in week one? Will Justin David show me what I was hoping I would see before the season even started..... These questions and more are running through my head as I get ready to watch the third episode... and how did it pan out, well, let's take a look shall we..... 

First off, who better to kick off the show dubbed "Outlaws and Rebels" than The Charlie Daniels Band..... Charlie still has it!

LeAnn Rimes truly looks as show she is more comfortable..... But I said it before and here it is again.... PLEASE stop using the overused term "You Know What", it is irritating when overused.....

What in the name of all things country is Cletus T. Judd doing there? I think a trained monkey could bring as much to the show as he does..... They should have let LeAnn do what Nancy did the first 2 seasons, she should ask the questions, or the guest star should, if he isn't adding anything, why is he there?

I am starting to like Bret Michaels more each week, Phil, I don't know, still tripping over every sentence but was able to say more than just "good" or "great" job this week....

Anastasia, I'm realy starting to warm up to her as a judge more as she is really giving more advice all the time!

Jenny Farrell - Lesson In Leavin'

I really don't think good is good enough at this stage of the competition... Jenny Farrell did just that, a good job, but I really think this far along you need to show America, and the world, more than an amateur performance. Was it nerves, well, she didn't look nervous, but she didn't shine like she needed to either, good just isn't enough.... after last week I was expecting a better performance..........

Anastasia - Feel the music, work on letting go

Phil - Your really surprised me, you really did great tonight

Jayron Weaver - Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde

Rocked it! Jayron, what did you have for breakfast? Whatever it was, make sure you stock up on it..... Jayron had already proven to me he was a good singer, but tonight he proved to me that he is also a great performer, Thanks for that. Jayron Weaver's performance tonight was as good, and rivaled any performance on this or any of the past seasons of Nashville Star, the male front-runner so far. Jayron took a Travis Tritt song and nailed it!

Anastasia - You looked into our eyes like I asked you, I am so proud of you

Bret - I think I might be looking at a Nashville Star Right Now

Phil - You connected .... You might be the best singer in the whole competition

Justin David - Tennessee Plates

I don't feel I've brought to the plate my best yet, but........... some of the worse things I can do are probably somebody's best things they could possibly do...... As long as I don't get the least amount of votes, I'm gonna win this thing..... 

Justin may have just won himself the least amount of votes. That statement to me simply states that you don't think enough of your fans to bring your best every night, that is a poor attitude for any emerging artist..... I was expecting a lot more, and the comment was enough to move you to the bottom of my list, I was disappointed to say the least......

Justin, your performance didn't live up to your ego, this was the least I was impressed so far.

Anastasia - I'm offended by your strategy ... You need to change your plan....

Bret - Give me just a little more energy, you know... a little more energy....

Phil - You've got no excuse, you've got to come out and kick it every single night......

Erika Jo - Texas (When I Die)

Not a good song choice for Erika Jo, her stage presence was better, but the vocals completely left me a bit flat this week.... I really like to watch Erika Jo, but gal, damn, what happened.... I know you are young, and you have time to grow.... I considered Erika Jo a front-runner in this competition, and may again, but this performance was the roughest I heard from her so far, the judges still seemed to like her, but Erika Jo just didn't pick the right song for her vocals and style... If you remember season one, Miranda Lambert gave that same song a much better tribute.

Anastasia - I wanna see the veins on your neck pop out.... I want you to feel the song, because I'm not feeling it as much as I want to.

Phil - You look like your so at home (on the stage) Keep Rockin' ... You're doing great

Jason Meadows - What's Your Name

Class Act!

I dedicate my performance tonight to Mr. Chris LeDoux........ I wanna be who I am and do what I do.

Probably the most traditional country performer so far in this competition. Well, at least until this Tuesday Night.... Jason Meadows proved one thing...... A little rock in your country isn't a bad thing.... we should be hearing more from Jason Meadows in the near future, great job. I do have to wonder if Bret Michaels can hear Jason when he is singing along with the song, but maybe he's just lip syncing... 

Anastasia - I want to find your point of difference

Bret  - You live your life on your terms, you sing the way you want to sing, you make it the way you wanna make it, that's all I care about..

Phil - I think you have a great voice, we have to find out what makes you different than Tracy Byrd and guys like that...

Tamika Tyler - When God-Fearing Women Get The Blues

Tamika Tyler completely rocked the theater, audience and Judges this time around..... last week she was a little off in a couple places, but when she sang tonight, I got chills - Hands down the best woman in the competition, tonight, and so far..... I would buy her album or see her show in a heartbeat!

LeAnn asks why she thinks a woman hasn't won Nashville Star yet, to which Tamika replies.... "The right woman hasn't been here so far...."

Anastasia - I am lovin' me some Tamika - Love the song like you do your baby......

Bret -  absolutely brilliant, next week I want more of it....

Casey Simpson, Me & Bobby McGee

Casey quote"It was cool to be called HOT by Bret Michaels"

Poor song choice..... poor song choice.... Yes, I did repeat myself... drop the snarl and growl darlin' it doesn't work for you... This is the least she has shone so far...... Instead of getting better, I think she just "stepped it down" instead of UP!

Anastasia - Either the song is wrong for you, or Your voice is wrong for my ears

Bret - Next week just give me a great job

Phil - It's hard to cover Janis Joplin... You need fire baby, fire....

And who will be taking the long walk home.....

Jody Evans or Christy..... and we say goodbye to Christy..... The little angel that kept her here last week seems to have abandoned her, and in my opinion justice was done....

Jody Evans - I Fought The Law

Quote: "With the Eight wonderful people I'm sharing the stage with, it just makes me wonder what you have to do to stay in there...."

Jody Evans style worked for Marshall Crenshaw on some projects, I know their style is a bit different, but BR549 as I have said before do their own thing, and do it well... it even Worked for Marty Stuart early in his solo career. My question I guess is it going to win him Nashville Star? I can more see Jody on a record label like Dualtone, Nonesuch or Hayden's Ferry...... Jody Evans really needs more originality and show the voters a little bit of Country....

Anastasia - You're one of my favorites ....... Just change the arrangement, make it your own BABY!

Bret - I think you know what you want to be, stick to what you love to do and make it the way you want to make it

Phil - Your style may be one dimensional..... I don't know what it is but it's just really good

So.... Final thought time......

I don't know honestly if I really want to hear any more from Justin David...... it may sound trivial to some, but his comment really left a sour note in the pit of my soul, If you don't have enough respect for the audience, what are you doing on the stage?
