A Jewell In The Crown Of Country Music , and a Star on the Rise...

That being said , I had to wait for this CD , I had Buddy Jewell's two independents to keep me going , but the local stores didn't carry this . Shame on them ! I know I am in a small area , that's one thing , but to tell me they didn't think the CD would sell, ahem The CD debuted at #1 on the Billboard country album charts , and # 13 on the Billboard 200 , which encompasses all albums , every genre . Well , I am glad I have a good friend who sent me the CD ! The first single "Help Pour Out The Rain (Lacey's Song) " as of this writing has also just broken the top 20 on the Radio and Records country singles chart .

OK , now we'll get to the good stuff , The new CD . WOW , for a week , I had to listen to others say what they liked , and what they thought was lacking . I have to tell you , in this reviewer's ears , the CD is pure Country GOLD ! There are so many songs here that are potential hits . From the slap in the face , fun song to all those fools that passed him by that opens the CD "I Wanna Thank Everyone" that goes on to say "that ever told me NO!" . It is such a fitting opening to Buddy's first major label CD on Columbia records .

The CD is produced by none other than Clint Black , and what a job he does , adding some harmonica to the disc as well . The duet with Nashville Star alumni Miranda Lambert of the Hag's "Today I Started Loving You Again" is a sheer winner . Miranda's vocals are flawless , and she and Buddy definitely have a chemistry , It gave me goosebumbs to hear it . That is saying something here folks . 

"Why We Said Goodbye" is a sad ballad , but you need a couple of those too . Two other  Buddy Jewell penned songs "Abilene On her Mind" and my new favorite , "One In A Row" which is absolutely perfect , better than the original version he recorded,  and that is also saying a lot . "One Step At A Time" and "You Know How Women Are" can be hits as sure as any of the others . It is a very rare thing for me to love every song , every note , and every lick of a CD , Buddy Jewell  has done that for me . This CD will only leave my CD player when I have to revue other music for quite some time . If you are a country fan , and don't have this CD yet , you are missing the best country album that has come around the bend in a long time . This is simply a must have . Unadulterated country that comes from the heart and soul of a REAL country performer .

Buddy Jewell  is going to be around for a long time to come , and if this is just the first glance , I am in for the long haul . Buddy , you keep making them , I'll keep buyin' 'em ! The only thing is , Buddy is such a great songwriter , I'd have liked to have heard more of his , but they will come !

A Revue of Buddy Jewell's second independent release "Far enough away"..

This is one of the best CD's I have listened to in 2003. (I know the CD was done in 2002, but I hadn't heard of Buddy Jewell yet. I've got to tell you, I was some kind of surprised when I popped in a CD by a contestant from one of "those" reality shows. My God, this guy is good. The trip starts with "tree of Love" for Buddy's grandma and grandpa. A powerful hook-laden song with very powerful lyrics. "Buddy Jewell is the real deal," I thought to myself. He has a velvet voice , but can pick it up too, I was blown away.

Buddy picks it up a bit with a fun song about a man making things hard for himself yet once again (no, I'm not one of those). It's a "gotcha" song "harder than it has to be". Then there's "King of My world" My guess would be a song for his wife. Calling a woman "king" of your world, nice twist.

One of the best songs on the album, tugs at your heart strings "mama's roses", tears welled up, honestly. All in All this is a classy disc from a classy guy. Buddy has made a treasure here. The production is above average for an independent project. It sounds great. I would put Buddy Jewell against any bona fide country performer today, before you ask, yes, He's that good.

Buddy will be the first to tell you it's been a long hard road. Well it's not over for him yet, but this is honest-to-God good ole country music. There are a couple of "real" standouts for me here. One is "Peg Leg Jessie's Daughter" a song I could hear David Allan Coe singing - that's a compliment too. Buddy can do the outlaw "stuff" as well as the polished country music. My favorite song , and I think the high point on this disc is "The Ring" ...What a story, what a song (editor's note: If I were still a radio programmer, I would have no problem adding this song, It has "hit" written all over it !).

Buddy Jewell has the whole thing a-goin' on. He can sing as good as anybody . He writes a heck of a song. He puts it together well. I think we will be hearing a lot from Buddy in the future.
