The Ramones - End of the Century - The story of the Ramones

It is simply impossible to mention the Punk Rock years, or Punk History without mentioning The Ramones ( Joey Ramone - vocals, Johnny Ramone - guitars, Dee Dee Ramone - bass, vocals, Tommy Ramone, Marky Ramone or Richie Ramone - drums) . Although they may not have received the dues they deserved in the early going, with nearly no airplay, the Punk Rock legends are as much a part of US Music history, Punk Rock History as Betsy Ross  is to the American Flag. With "End of the Century - The Story of the Ramones", the Ramones finally get some of the respect they deserve with this documentary. Hands down, this is the best documentary on not only The Ramones, but the complete New York punk rock and Glam scene of the mid to late 1970s and beyond.

Chronicling from the bands inception, to their end, with all of the joys, tragedies, rivalries and contempt that go in between. This is a must see for any Punk Music fans, or music historians. Although they have retained popularity over the years, this is as much of a "what not to do when starting a band" film as it is a retrospective of the Ramones and the New York punk scene. Complete with interviews with band members, classic footage, memories of the humble and disturbed beginnings, as well as some classic live footage, this is simply an amazing and riveting film.

The Ramones were, in 2002, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the seventeenth annual induction dinner, inducted by Eddie Vedder. This is a major feat, especially since they were all but shunned and ignored by radio and press in the beginning stages of their musical journey. This film catches everything in the memories, and it also includes some family interview footage, and some of the childhood friends of the bands giving their take on the members, at least the way they recall it.

A well done, and classic portrayal of a band, and a music scene in general, many thought would never last. The Ramones are prime examples of the music parents would yell "Turn that noise down" to the deaf ears of their children, and here you get to look beyond and beneath the music, into the lives and personalities that gave the bunch of schoolyard "losers" a permanent lift into superstardom, and then back to reality. This is a must own, you won't be able to watch this one just once, as a matter of fact, I recommend you watch "End of the century - The Story of the Ramones" a few times, there's too much "meat" in here to miss. Truly awesome!
