Toronto Rocks - The Concert - DVD Review

Toronto Rocks Concert crowdOn July 30th 2003, over 490,000 Fans traveled to T.O., yep Toronto, Ontario, Canada to take in one of the biggest music spectaculars of all time. None were disappointed by the show which was held in Downsview Park, None at all. What do you expect when you have some of the biggest names in Canadian music, and Rock Music from around the world gathering for one day to play their asses off and show their support for a city which has done so much for their careers. At the time their were numerous travel advisories around the world warning people to not travel to Toronto because of the SARS outbreak. That didn't stop the music fans, nor did it stop some of the greatest acts in rock from gathering on one stage for a one day electric and almost magical concert event.

Burton Cummings - The Guess who at Toronto RocksGranted some came to see their favorite acts gathered on stage, some came to support the city, but all cam for a once in a lifetime event. The acts that gathered were diverse from classic rock to the new breed and all put on a spectacular show! The lineup was magnificent featuring from the start Sam Roberts, Kathleen Edwards, La Chicane, The Tea Party, Blue Rodeo, Sass Jordan, The Flaming Lips, The Have Love Will Travel review (Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi), The Isley Brothers, Justin Timberlake, The Guess Who, Rush, AC/DC, and the headliners, and first act to sign on for the event, The Rolling Stones. If you were not one of the fortunate ones that got to see this rare and spectacular line-up it is now available on DVD for all to experience.

AC/DC Rocks on stage at the Toronto Rocks concert stageThe artists were in fine form on this summers day in Toronto, Toronto Rocks shows the event with the concert, bonus material including the press tent, In The Crowd, Group Photo (Backstage) and more. The DVD showcase acts that were in top form as they played to the almost half a million fans in attendance. Some of the incredible highlights of the show include AC/DC jamming with The Stones, Sam Roberts kicking the show off with a spectacular performance of Don't Walk Away Eileen, the reunion of The Guess Who and the simple and pure energy and electricity that can be viewed in the crowd.

Angus Young Rocks with Keith Richards at the Toronto Rocks concertThere is not a whole lot you can say about this event except you have to experience it for yourself. The artists had their favorites they wanted to meet as well. Justin Timberlake expressed he was "...here to see the mother f@$&ing Stones". You can feel the electricity in the show even when watching the DVD, The ultimate concert line-up that can now be owned to view over and over. Toronto Rocks truly is the concert experience of a lifetime. The show was the largest ticketed single event in history, you will not see this ensemble again on one stage and this is one of the best concert DVDs I have ever experienced! The DVD comes in 2 forms, the edited one disc, but I recommend the 2 Disc set as it has much morre to offer. Pay no heed to the folks that say their was some music left out, their had to be, but maybe they will release more in the future.

  ( 5.5 Stars out of 6 )
