Columbus, Ohio should have something to b e really proud of before long. That something is being the home of Red Wanting Blue. Monster guitar driven pop rock that could sit beside any of the radio friendly tunes on the radio today. Kind of a Nickelback performing Matchbox 20 after spending the night with Staind kind of sound. No all of those bands don't sound alike, however, Red Wanting Blue doesn't sound like any one of their contemporaries, more of a culmination of a dozen or so bands topping the charts today.

So, you haven't heard of Red Wanting Blue, I am sure you will before too much time passes. Not absolutely original, but a safe sounding disk any major label shouldn't have any problem signing. More spunk and attitude than some of their colleagues that already sit in the top 20. The progression and finesse in the guitar work of Epp does lift them up a rung higher on the ladder already than the bands that are already experiencing the fame.

If international radio passed on Red Wanting Blue they are missing a sure shot favorite that will fit not only into the pop and rock formats, but also some modern rock stations. Their sound and their style are completely radio friendly. I wouldn't be able to sleep if I didn't also tell you that although I find the sound pleasant, I would rather hear something completely fresh and innovative than following the sound that is already clogging the airwaves. All I mean by that is simply that their is not a lot on Souvenirs Of City Life that makes the band rise above the rest.

There are some really great tracks, and as on every album, some not so catchy. I am sure they will do extremely well with the music they create. I just like to hear more from indie artists than the simple reworking of the mainstream, I like artists that aren't afraid to take some chances. If the main goal of Red Wanting Blue is to draw attention to them, they succeed easily, but fall short at times of originality. All things considered, a very easy to listen to album has been crafted and should bring some of the bigs sniffing around their door.
