So, you're in a smoky bar room on a Saturday night, the entertainment arrives and gets on the stage. You pay little attention as you think you've heard it all before. Maybe you have, but not as captivating as Rosie Flores. Standing alone on the stage armed with simply an acoustic Taylor guitar, on Single Rose, Rosie Flores proves that she doesn't need anyone else to but on an incredible show. An in-concert recording that took place at Douglas Corner Cafe, Nashville, TN.

Shining throughout the CD, Rosie Flores lays out her brand of alt. country. If this CD were recorded in the 70s, it would have given Loretta Lynn a run for her money. The material is not dated, simply a roots feel that catches your attention with a stellar show, humor, and feeling. Accompanied by her guitar and Tammy Rogers occasional fiddle playing. Rosie Flores guitar playing can be bluesy, folkish, and country on 3 consecutive tracks.

Single Rose showcases the charismatic Rosie Flores in her natural environment. Stating "I'm having the time of my life" prior to "West Texas Plains" and you can hear that Rosie Flores is truly having fun, you can easily picture yourself as part of the audience with no trouble. You'll find yourself playing this CD more and more as it seems to get better with each spin. In this bar environment I describe, about half way through the second number the crowd falls uncharacteristically silent as we hang on each song laid out in the set.

Pushing vocals between Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris, a CD that spent some time on the Americana chart has a tremendously high appeal factor. Remember this is a live recording as you listen, throughout the CD you can get lost to the fact if not for the applause that only appears at the beginning and end of songs. "Midnight To Moonlight" featuring the harmony of James Intveld is breathtaking, as are "Daddy's Lullaby" and the upbeat and quirky disc opener "Palomino Days" which gives Rosie Flores to do a lot of country music who's who namedropping. The sheer enjoyment you'll have makes this a no brainer for country fans.
