The Best of Sixpence None The Richer

Sixpence None The Richer

The title here may be confusing depending where you know Sixpence None The Richer from the Contemporary Christian Music side, or the straight forward Pop Music airplay. Fans of CCM are left wondering why there weren't more tracks added to this collection, while the Pop music world is left scratching their head saying "Best Of? Didn't they only have like 2 or 3 real hits?". I will just say this, no matter which side of the coin you're on, this is still a solid disk with great music, after all isn't that really what it's all about? The Texas based band really have made some waves in the music, and for fans, knowing that this is the end is something some still aren't willing to accept, after all, bands get back together everyday, right?

Coming in at just over 70 minutes of music, this 18 song collection from Sixpence None The Richer does hold some great moments. This is actually more of a hodge-podge collection than it is a true "Best-Of" CD. I mean really, the selling point of this disc was focused on the fact you would have to buy 11 different discs to get this collection of Christian Pop music. That is true, but not a fair title. The disk may have been more aptly named "The Best and then Some". For fans of Sixpence, this is for sure a treat.... for the rest of the music world, Sixpence None The Richer are still a great band to listen to, so the collection works for fans and "casual" listeners alike.....

The comfortable vocals of Leigh Nash are completely fitting for al the tracks, including the covers "Don't Dream It's Over" (Crowded House), "There She Goes" (The La's), and "Dancing Queen" (ABBA). Like it or not, Sixpence None The Richer is partly responsible for the way the world looks at Christian Music today. Writing lyrics that are more about life and how to go on than they are about "Worship", although that comes through as well on tracks like "Trust".

Delivering songs that are more than just trite pop to be included in the radio wasteland, Sixpence None The Richer actually crafted their songs as an art-form rather than a money making machine. If it weren't for all the record label quibbling and arguments over song rights we may have still been hearing more from 6P, but it wasn't in the cards. As one listener that appreciates the offering of Sixpence None The Richer, I tip my hat and bid the band a fond farewell. Thanks for the memories, and the bonus materials here are great, like the Japanese version of Kiss Me, which was only available on the Japanese single prior to this collection.
