Over the years, pop music has gone through many changes. The term Pop can be misleading in these times as Popular music is actually a culmination of genres. Pop music reviews will focus on a number of artists and bands, not limited to one specific sound. The Matthew Show - Texas

Naming an album Texas automatically makes you think this should be a BIG record, as they say everything is bigger in Texas. The CD is a dark, and at times whimsical outlook on life delivered by one man simply known as Matthew. The Matthew Show recently packed up his wife, belongings, and his cat to move from his native Texas to the Big Apple. There may be more of a market for the unique brand of pop in  New York than Texas as the music runs from melodic and thought provoking to simply strange and at times bordering on absurd. 

Taking a strange assortment of influences that include folk, rock, pop, and some alternative to make the CD that shows life through a slightly warped pair of glasses. On Texas, The Matthew Show prove their is a place carved out in the music world for a modern day soapbox prognosticator. The music soars and the vocals fit the style of music, no I can't see much of this hitting the airwaves, I don't know if the general public is ready for The Matthew Show just yet.

Deep and thought provoking lyrics that sometimes leave you hanging are a high point of the CD as The Matthew Show tries to expand your mind, or implant thoughts therein. Actually, although a bit strange, Texas has a way of drawing you into the music and sounds. The inimitable style has a sort of hold on you that forces you to dig deeper into the sounds and lyrics to get exactly what the artist is trying to portray. The Matthew Show has put together and 11 song body of work that will be sure to draw in some new fans.

While listening to the CD there are a few tunes that really captivate your thoughts like the tongue in cheek "Office Suite" parts one and two that focus on a disgruntled office worker. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, and enjoyed the CD. You will need to judge for yourself, but as the saying goes don't knock it until you try it. Original to the core, but be warned, if you had a bad day at the office, or if you are feeling lower than a whales belly, you may want to wait until your mood changes to listen to the CD. Two more of the strongest cuts are "Bring Me Safely Down" and "The Loneliest Boy in Toyland" which has elements of The Kinks. Interesting and different concept that can hold your attention.
