The White Stripes: Get Behind Me Satan Review by Kyle Neumann

The latest album to come from The White Stripes called Get Behind Me Satan is one of the best rock albums to come out this year. In an industry plagued with music that sounds all the same, The White Stripes have a sound all their own.

“Blue Orchid” is the first track on the album and one of my favorites. It gets the album going on an energetic note. I love listening to this song when I am driving to work. It helps get me going in the morning especially when I have had a lack of quality sleep. “Little Ghost” has an old time feel to it that I have not heard anywhere else, possibly Jack White learned some of this from his work with Loretta on Van Lear Rose. I love "Little Ghost" because it totally stands out. It sticks in my head. When a song can stick in my head that I do not tire of, that is a strong indicator for me.

The last track “I’m Lonely (But I Ain’t That Lonely Yet)” winds down the album. It has a slow rhythm that haunts the listener when the album closes. I love the title of the song alone because this is a thought that would stand out in my mind. You aren’t really alone as long as you have your strength to carry you on. That is how I come off from this song and the entire album.

I highly recommend The White Stripes and “Get Behind Me Satan.” If you are a fan of The White Stripes, this is a must have and even of rock. “Get Behind Me Satan” differs from “Elephant” and “White Blood Cells”, but it is a good album none the less. The sound here sounds more mature than their previous work. “Elephant” and “White Blood Cells” are must haves as well. Jack and Meg White have given their strongest CD to date, and well worth the wait. Get Behind Me Satan leaves the other wannabes scratching their heads .
